France Better Than Spain - Safer Than Eastern Europe
    by Howard Farmer

France is a better place to invest in than Spain and less risky than eastern European countries, according to one expert. s

Trisha Mason, managing director of property firm VEF, said that the Spanish market had "fallen flat on its face" and that more people should look to buying French property instead.

She added that while it was true that the French property market may not match the capital growth seen in places such as Bulgaria, it is certainly a safer choice than any of these countries.

Investors take advantage of 'mature economy'

"France is good because it's a mature economy, it's a safe property market but it's not going to produce the capital growth that some eastern countries do," said Ms Mason.

"[France is] a safe choice, but it's more interesting this month than it was last month."

She added that the French economy was set to boom under the new president Nicolas Sarkozy and that there was plenty of time for investor to cash in before house prices start rising.

Property market gets lively with Sarkozy

The property market is predicted to get "livelier" with the arrival of the politician, who is said to be intending to lower inheritance tax, and make mortgages more tax efficient.

Another bonus Mr Sarkozy brings with him is the pledge to cut the red tape surrounding buying property and investing in France. Although the Sarkozy effect could take some time to manifest itself, and there is likely to be some resistance from the Unions, it could be a good time to start looking! We recommend the Languedoc-Roussillon for property investment.
